This website and the Llwybrau Cerdded – The Mawddwy Walking Paths – are the result of the labour of a small number of volunteers under the name of a social enterprise called Cwmni Nod Glas Cyf. Cwmni Nod Glas was established in 2012 with the intention of improving the social, economy and environment of the Mawddwy area by attracting funding to carry out projects that would realize those objectives. The Co-operative managed to get several grants to buy and renovate an old shop in the centre of Dinas Mawddwy – Yr Hen Siop – with local businesses doing the work and the Cafe which offers opportunities for people of all ages to gain experience and work in the catering world, while the flats contribute to maintaining a buzz in the community and accommodation for local individuals at fair prices.
A lease was received on ‘Lawnt y Plas’ where a huge Victorian mansion, Y Plas, once stood. This is an asset to the community, and most of the circular paths start from this area.
Eight circular routes have been identified and developed in the parish ranging from a mile and a half to twelve miles with a variety in length and ease. The paths can be an opportunity to get to know the area and a way to see its glories.
The routes were funded through various grants – mainly Europe and the Welsh Government, the United Kingdom Government, and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Directors of Cwmni Nod Glas have spent hours discussing, walking, working, holding meetings, and contributing financially to this initiative as they have a vision to see the area flourish socially, economically, and environmentally. We hope you will share our vision as you walk the trails.
